Sorry to hear this, been epic-level busy at work. Life had me tied down a bit too hard to post, but I am sad to see this site go. You and Claire worked your asses off on this wonderful forum. I make no empty promises, but something in the air in my area seems to smell of a bunch of time off or a whole career change, and if that happens, I could step up to take over, though I am not knowledgeable; I make no promises. I can adjust some things if needs be. Love you all so very much.

AO3 is a giant website for amateur writing that focuses primarily on fanfiction but also allows original fiction. It has basically no restrictions on what kind of story is allowed. It hosts currently more than 18 million stories in total and gains several thousand new ones each day.

AO3 was created in 2008 by people who were fed up with increasing censorship in fanfiction. It's like a huge galaxy, and my works along with my readers dwell in a tiny solar system called Proxima HistBuffi, somewhere past the Vestal Nebula in the outer circles of said galaxy. There's everything; name it and you'll likely find it. Huge fandoms such as Lord of the Ring, and Original works such as @Claire's and @Vela Nanashi's rapey stories!

The readership you'll attract hinges largely on the fandom. I see the same users among my own kudos, some of whom also post rapey stories. The feedback is a lot more plentifull when posting in a well-known fandom, e.g., the Star Wars universe or Harry Potter.

Literotica has two huge problems.

To that end, we DO NOT publish works of any type featuring the following content:

Ravishment/non-consent fantasies in which the “victim” receives no thrill or enjoyment from the acts, or is seriously and/or permanently physically harmed/abused/maimed/killed.

... Literotica where it is required that the victim experience a degree of pleasure. ...

Some of these sensitivities seem to be outright absurd to me. When @HistBuff mentioned in a discussion we had that Literotica allows rape fantasy stories but only if the victim enjoys it to a degree, I was a bit perplexed by that. And not because they forbid certain kind of content. It is totally fine and understandable if Literotica were to say that noncon fiction is not part of their brand and therefore doesn't allow it at all. I do that here to. This is not a forum for fiction without erotic content. If you want to write a heart warming non-sexual coming of age story, this forum is not the place for that. But to say: we allow forced sex in the stories published here but only if the story downplays the severity of it? That is absurd to me.

The second problem is that their story submission system is broken, with new works from time to time getting stuck in 'pending' limbo. Plenty of complaints at their (non-)support sub-board here.

Literotica is also excessively stringent in the way they apply their no-under-18 rules. They use a bot that flags key words such as "teenage" and if you use that word referring to a 19-year-old character, your story may still get kicked back due to the bot flagging it. I only write stories in French on Literotica, for two reasons 1) Literotica is the only platform with a readership in my first language, 2) The rules are applied in a much looser way in French. Maybe 3) I did not experience "pending limbo".

All in all, my go-to platform will be AO3. I may try my hand at publishing for money, but I'm put off by these publishing rules that sometimes change overnight.
