But I stumbled over something that does not make sense to me: Why does Chess have divisions for men and women?
Not exactly, there's the general division -- as in, both men and women can have a go at Gukesh in the championship cycle -- and the women-only thing. Why? The International Chess Federation decided a hundred a so years ago that women in chess need to get some recognition. :)

Circa move 20 was almost certain Caruana was about to crumble under time pressure, but now he's like way better.

I don't really tend to watch tournaments of anything :) but more random chess things/matches when mood strikes me :)

@AdmiralPiet I have heard some people say that there is a woman's and male's league of chess due to the greater male variability thing, basically there are more idiots among men and geniuses among men, while women cluster a bit tighter near average, meaning fewer idiots and fewer geniuses. So women would have a lot more competition if we just piled them together with males in the chess contests. So I think it is good there is separate leagues.

Of course I would actually like to see in all sports/competitions a male league, female league and then a league where anyone can choose to participate male or female, though I think say boxing or other high impact sports I don't want to see men and women compete in the same thing as there is a larger risk of injury to women there. However I see women and men compete in chess all the time, so we kind of have the third thing going already :)
