I like the dialogue in this part and as always you are also dense with information I think that description of 69 was fairly unique too I feel a little too distant from the characters, I guess I don't fully understand them, what is the benefit of the vicennalia slot? Do they desire to have fights more often?

I wonder if a wooden dildo can actually ever be nice to use, wood being prone to splintering and also soaking fluid thus making the friction dry, but I suppose the right wood and properly oiled might be nicer to use. Though maybe that was not the point.

If she's very ugly, perhaps. Gladiatrices, much like actresses, were considered infamiae, i.e. on the level with prostitutes, but there were many degrees. Here, the free dancer Sextilia Valerina is an example of a well-known entertainer who is semi-officially available to senators etc. for a huge price (the same arrangement is presented in 'Dance of the Sun Goddess'; in Paris, it persisted into the 20th century). Parata and Fusca are slaves, so a couple of rungs below Valerina -- if she chooses for herself, the gladiatrices are ordered about.

Although historical fiction is not quite my interest, I do enjoy how much is there and the new words are mentally stimulating too, even if it prevents me from sinking in fully into a flow. Keep up the good work
