For the spirit of the challenge I would say a day to make edits at most since it's supposed to be done only in November, but if there are life circumstances that happen I could understand the need for extra time as long as that's communicated here. Overwhelming readers won't be an issue because the length of the poll will depend on how many entries there are.

When I'm thinking edits after the deadline, I'm thinking spellchecks and grammar cleaning. Fixing their-there-they're's and shit like that. Even still, it's a first draft so it might be ugly as fuck. Post what you got when possible.

I mean I think it is okay to edit our posts after the fact, even if we first post super raw form of story :)

Woo-hoo! I'm past 50k words. Nominally I'm now at 52485, including chapter headings, so a touch less in body. 52437 I guess. I'll be done soon, before the end of the Thanksgiving break. Maybe by Black Friday. There are just a few chapters left. I know how I want it to end but not how exactly to get it there, but I think I'll work something out.

Congrats dude. I'll be flirting with the deadline at this pace. 34k words for this thing. The story will be much, much larger and Part 1 will be about 50k words. Looking forward to reading your work.

Every NaNoWriMo I've done, there's been one day, generally a weekend near the end of the period, where I just write like a machine. Last year I managed 11k in one day. The previous year, I think it was about 9.5k? Today I managed 8073, so the lowest of the three, but still a lot. Three chapters. Like the rest of Pheromonica, it was a mix of good and less good. Now I have three remaining chapters outlined to wrap up the action and settle all the main characters in their final fates, for good or bad.

Well, to anyone interested, I am done. My NaNoWriMo story for 2025, Pheromonica, is completed. It stands at 63881 words total, including chapter headings, or 63824 words of body text. 157 pages in single-spaced Word, 2129 average words per chapter.

Whew.

I've never tried something of this size this fast and with so little prep. I'm amazed it turned out as well as it did. Feel free to comment on any aspect you wish. I know I could rattle off a couple dozen things I would tweak, modify, or flat-out redo if I were to ever sit down and turn this into a properly edited novel. It's a passable crime noir sci-fi, though one of the things I didn't like was how little sci-fi it ended up being. I can't realistically put it in present day, but in the end it only really had flying cars, zappy ray guns, and a few other trinkets to indicate it was not a twenty-first century tale. But on the whole, I like it. I developed it entirely for this contest on this site. It was not a pre-existing idea I swiped off my master ideas list. I almost did a Star Wars universe fan fic, but realized this idea, basely loosely on an unfinished (as in like a page and a half written) story I started once, had legs if it was done right.

I'm happy to talk about the writing process if anyone wishes to. While it's fresh in my head, I can share how some ideas turned into later ideas. But I'll let someone else get the ball rolling on that. For now, enjoy. I hope everyone loves it to death and sings my praises for years to come.

And I really do want to see what everyone else managed, even if unfinished. All hail Calliope, the muse of the lyric epic, as we join in bending her over to have our way with her.

And on a related note, if anyone has an idea for a better title than Pheromonica, please feel free to share. I used it as a placeholder, but I also needed to have a title for the posts. I admit I have a weakness for pretentious titles that are only tangentially related to the actual story. So if anyone has an idea that lies between Pheromonica and The Crazy Girl that Made Rape Dangerous, I'm all ears.

Pheromonica is actually an appropriate title since one of your characters manipulates men using pheromones.
