Health and Fitness

The Dining Hall is the perfect place to take a break from your studies. Meet your fellow students or colleagues to chat about anything else the world has to offer. For the most part, any interest you want to share is fair game—just steer clear of contemporary politics.

Health and Fitness

Post by AdmiralPiet »

As the title says: Health and Fitness.
What do you do (or don't) to stay healthy?
Sport? A special diet? Does your workplace alone do the trick?

Myself i have never been th sporty type. Had somewhat of a belly ever since i was a child and hated sports/PE class in school.
German sport education in my experience is designed in a way that it awards those who are already sporty (like playing in a soccer club) and punish those who are not.
And it really sucks at giving those who are not any incentive to get better.

My personal fitness rose when i started to work, and I was reasonably/averagely strong. When i went back to school it plumeted however. I got fatter, and more unhealthy because i ate much more junkfood then. Afterwards I worked in Office jobs.
In recent years I tried sometimes to cut out sugary stuff, with medium success, and bought myself some dumbells years ago.
My doc deemed my bloodpressure a bit high, and my blood sugar as well.
In my fire department I noticed some things, like carrying the portable oump around to be overly taxing.
End of 2024 I started some weight training again, but overdid it promptly.

This year I think I am on a good path:
Trained once or twice a week, attended gym regulary, see progress.
Managed to cut down weight somewhat. Don't have as many sweets in the house, finally managed to replace most softdrinks with the Zero variants.

Lots of good advice on training and nutrition is to be found online, but you have to cut through a lot of bullshit to get there.

I kind of destroyed my body in my youth with sugar and carbohydrates, and was at the point that I was dying. Luckily I found low carbohydrate high fat normal protein diet and I have managed to stop myself from dying with that, I try to be as strict as I can with it, and to exercise when pain allows me to. I still like sweet things, and still have exception days from time to time, but mostly sweetness I get from stevia these days, and no soft drinks just a lot of tea or coffee, most of the time :) So no longer dying, but still not what any sane person would call healthy.
